      Out of stock

Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power Series HA4306 is this superb 1/72 scale North American F-86F Sabre serial 51-2910 "Beauteous Butch II" of the 39th FIS/51st FIW, Suwon AB, 1953. Production limited to only 1,000 units.

In late 1952 Joseph C. McConnell Jr. was assigned to the 39th FIS/51stFIW in South Korea. Between January 14, 1953 and May 18, 1953 McConnell became the USAF top ace of the Korean War with 16 MiG-15 victories. During the Korean War McConnell flew 3 different F-86s, all named “Beautious Butch II”; a pet name for his wife. An F-86E, then an F-86F that was shot down and finally F-86F 51-2910 buzz number FU-910. On May 18, 1953 McConnell scored victories 15 and 16 and his F-86F had the name repainted to “Beauteous Butch II”.

The North American F-86 Sabre was manufactured from 1949 – 1956 and was America’s first
swept-wing fighter. As well as being built in the U.S. variants were built in Canada and Australia bringing the total of all variants manufactured to 9,860 units. During the Korean War the Sabre arrived to take on the other swept-wing aircraft of the conflict, the MiG-15 Fagot. The Americans claim they shot down 792 MiGs while only losing 78 Sabres, a 10:1 victory ratio which is greatly disputed.
